Transcript: Hermes Agent Just 10x’d Everyone’s Claude Code

My name is David Andre and in this video I'm going to show you how to use Hermes agent with cloud code to build anything you want. Now for those of you who are not familiar with Hermes agent, it is the world's first self-improving AI agent and recently it went mega viral. This is what the graph looks like for the amount of GitHub stars and this is what the search volume on Google trends looks for the term Hermes agent. So yeah, Hermes agent is quickly becoming the most popular AI agent in the world and that's because number one, it's free to use. Number two, you can use it

through WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, all of the applications that you already use day-to-day. Number three, it's fully open source. Number four, it has constant updates and improvements. It's crazy how fast the team is shipping. And number five, of course, the self-improving loop, which ensures that every time you use Hermes, it's a bit better, saving you more and more time. Another reason why Hermes agent is getting so popular is because OpenClaw, its biggest competitor, has been getting worse. And that really started when OpenAI hired Peter, the founder of

OpenClaw, to join OpenAI. And obviously, they're paying him tens of millions of dollars to work for OpenAI, not on his cute little Open source side project. And this is why tens of thousands of people are switching from OpenClaw to Hermes agent. And I noticed this when I spotted that OpenClaw is getting bloated, right? Updating took forever. Restarting a gateway was super slow. And that's not what it felt like at the end of January or early February. Now, while a lot of people are hopping on the Hermes agent bandwagon, most videos

about Hermes only show you the setup, like the super basic configuration and never answer the single biggest question that a lot of people have. What are the actual use cases? So, after using Hermes agent for dozens of hours and after being one of the first people on YouTube to cover it, I developed a unique workflow that lets Hermes agent build anything by using cloth code sub agents. So Hermes is the orchestrator and it's able to deploy and launch sub agents that are cloud core instances and it's able to manage them and orchestrate them to build any type of software that you

want. So in this video you're going to learn how to set up Hermes agent from scratch, how to deploy it on your own VPS, how to connect it to open router so you can use any AI model available. How to install cloud code on the VPS and set it up as a sub agent of Hermes. How to give Hermes access to your GitHub so it can actually push to GitHub. how to set up auto deploys to Versel so that any update is deployed publicly within 25 seconds in production. And we're going to do all of this while chatting with Hermes agent on Discord in plain

English. So you can be walking down the streets of Kato and literally sending voice notes and within 30 seconds your app will be updated to all of your users. So yeah, you're going to learn a lot. That way, Hermes has its own full computer, right? If you put it on your own computer, you risk it deleting data and it cannot run everything by itself autonomously. But if you give it its own VPS, it's like giving the agent full powers. When you put Hermes on a virtual private server, you give it access to a full operating system, meaning it can do anything in

the terminal. It can install any type of dependency it wants. And this is what makes it a lot more powerful than just chatting with chat GBD. So one of the best options, I would say the best option is Hostinger for this. Number one, they're one of the most affordable VPS options out there. But most importantly, they give you a custom Hermes landing page, and I'm going to link this below the video. It's literally set up for Hermes agent, allowing you to skip a lot of the steps and making it as simple as possible for you to install Hermes agent on a VPS. click on deploy. And this is going to take you to the hosting card. First, select the period you want. Now, we could use the hosting integrated web terminal, but SSH is better. It's more native. It's easier to use. And you can do this even if you've never used the terminal. Okay? I know the term SSH might be overwhelming to some of you, but I'm going to show you everything step by step in plain English. You don't have to be a DevOps expert. You don't have to be a developer. None of that. If you just pay attention for the next 20 minutes, you're going to have your

Hermes agent set up up and running on a VPS connected with Discord running cloth code sub aents that can deploy to GitHub. All of that you can follow even if you are not a developer. So here what we need to do is we need to copy this command. Hostinger gives you a one link copy, a one-click copy. Just copy that, open terminal on your computer and paste that in. Enter. That's it. It's going to ask for your root password, right? So hopefully you saved that during the setup of the VPS. If you haven't, you can click here, change, and

generate a new password and save that again. Hostinger makes it super easy. Paste in the password and here we go. We're in. So what that looks like is we can type in clear and we are sshed into our VPS. And that's how easy it is. Now, luckily, Hermes install is super simple. If you go to the official GitHub, which I'm going to link below the video, it's literally a oneliner installer command, right? So you copy this, you paste it in, and then you let it run. This command installs all of the dependencies you need for Hermes agent to work. All

of the packages, NodeJS, rep grip, ffmpe, everything it needs to run and to be a powerful AI agent. So you just let it run. And again, this is the beauty of having a VPS. You don't have to worry about these slowing down your computer because they're on a virtual private server. They're contained, right? Your computer is completely separate. So your computer will be running as fast as possible and even when you close it, Hermes will still work, right? So that's the beauty of owning your VPS. You can deploy other stuff on there. If you have a website, you can host it on a VPS. If

you want to run open claw or agent zero, you can put them all on a single hosting your VPS. This KVM2 plan is more than powerful to host multiple agents. You can put NA10 on there and run some automations. You can host your full stack web app on a VPS. That's the beauty of having your own virtual private server. So obviously we're going to go with open router here. Boom. Paste in the key. Enter. Like we're speedrunning this guys. This is like super efficient. I'm going to select cloth open 4.7. I'm

going to set up messaging now. Actually, why not? And we're going to go with Discord and launch Hermes chat now. Sure, we can launch it and we can test if Hermes works. So again, I'm telling you, you don't have to be developer to follow these steps. This is super simple and everyone should be running their own AI agent on a VPS in 2026. It is mandatory. All right, so I'm going to send hey, let's see if we get a response. And there we go. Our Hermes agent is responding connected to open router running cloth

opus 4.7. This already is better than 95% of people, right? But we're going to take it a step further. We're going to not only connect it to discord, we're going to give it cloth code so it can launch in a sub aent. Then give it access to GitHub and set up all the deployments to versel. So pay attention because each of these steps is going to make Hermes more and more powerful. Okay. So the next step is actually what most people will not tell you and that is to add Node.js to the path because Hermes installs NodeJS within itself but not to the path of the VPS. So I'm going to press Ctrl C

to kill the Hermes process. I'm going to type clear to reset the terminal and I'm going to copy this command right here. Boom. Paste that in. And this will connect the NodeJS install to the path. So we can do like node-v to check the version of noode.js. Okay. And by the way, all of these steps are in the new society inside of the classroom in the Hermes mastery course. You can see we have different use cases for Hermes agent. This one is for cloth code. So, we already did a bunch of these and again feel free to pause the video and screenshot them completely for free if

you want or join the new society to access all of these resources. Next, we need to install cloud code on our VPS. So, this is going to be the second agent in a matter of a couple of minutes. We install, right? So, copy this command right here, npm install, and paste that into the SSH, the same terminal where we're SSH into the VPS. And this is going to install CL code. There it is. So now we can do clot dash dash version to see what version of clot code we have.

2.1.71. If you're watching this in the future, you probably have a newer version. Amazing. Now we can actually type in Hermes to launch Hermes agent. And we can even ask it to list out all available skills. List out all skills you have. And the beautiful part is that Hermes comes with the cloth code skills. There is cloth code delegate coding to cloud code. So it literally comes bundled with the skill. So we don't have to give it that skill. We do have to install the cloth code CLI which is what we did right now. The next step is to set up some form of

a login. Right? So the cloth code actually works because right now we just only installed it. We haven't authenticated. So I'm going to interrupt Hermes agent again with Ctrl C. I'm going to do clear and I'm going to type in cloth to launch cloth code. Dark mode is fine. And we have three options. Cloud code subscription and console or third party platform. If you have subscription, go with subscription. If you don't have it, I'm going to go with console. If it doesn't open, just copy this. Obviously, we're on a VPS, so it will not open. And paste it into your computer. Select your organization and

click authorize. We can copy this code. Switch back to the terminal. Paste the code in. And we should be good. Let's hit enter. We need to hit enter again. Trust the folder. And let's see if this works. Okay, I'm going to switch model to Opus 4.7. Yeah, I don't know why 4.7 isn't here. Whatever. 4.6. I'm going to do Hey, let's see if this works. And it works. Beautiful. So, we have cloth code running on the VPS. So, we have set up two full agents, right? Hermes agent and cloth code in a matter of a couple of

minutes. But guys, we're just getting started. The video is going to get a lot more better, a lot more useful. So, I'm going to press command C again. Control C actually, not command C, control C to interrupt the process and clear. And by the way, you can also verify this with claw doctor to see if everything is good. Type it in. And all seems good. I'm going to hit enter and type clear again. All right. So, next we need to create a new GitHub repo and clone an empty project into Hermes. All right. So, first go to github.com and log in or if you don't have an account, definitely

create a GitHub account. It's absolutely essential for building anything with AI. And again, it's completely free. So, go to top right and either sign in or sign up. And here we go. Now actually we can go into our SSH and we can launch Hermes again just by typing Hermes and we can ask it to help us set up GitHub because it comes with a skill that allows you to set up GitHub, right? I don't know if we can see it here. Okay, I'm going to say find the skill that lets you

set up GitHub access and tell me what you need from me. Be very concise. There it is. skill GitHub off fastest path HTTPS token I need from you GitHub personal access token so it gives us the link okay and create a classic token scopes repo workflow read okay should I first create a new repo no off setup is dependent of repo do this first okay so I'm going to go to

tokens on left classic create new token classic note permit s DPS. You can set an expiry date. For the scopes, I can ask which exact scopes should I select for the classic token. And by the way, don't be ashamed to talk to AI. This is how you debug. Give the AI context what you're doing and ask it for help, right? Hermes agent can help you set up Hermes agent and make it make itself more powerful.

Okay. So, for general work, push PRS actions, it needs repo. So I'm going to give it access to this then workflow. Then it wanted the read org. There it is. Read or that should be enough. Write packages. Maybe we can give it that. Okay, that should be enough. Don't give it too many permissions and B do not share this with anybody. Tokens also should be like secrets, right? Um so definitely keep this private. Now pay

attention because this is important security practice. Most people would just copy this. they would go to the SSH and they would type in Hermes and they would send it to Hermes agent, right? I've done that in the past myself sending API keys to AI models, but it's terrible security practice, right? Do not do that because it goes to the API provider. So, it goes through open router and in this case it goes to enthropic, right? Because we're using cloud model. Now, enthropic is probably not going to do anything with your API key, right? But it's terrible security practice. So, what you want to do

instead is something like this. Hermes config set then the name of the token and then you paste in the token right so I just copied this from GitHub and make sure to pause and actually do this hermes config set GitHub token and then you paste in the actual token this stores it securely inside of the env file within Hermes agent without giving it to the agent right so the agent when you type in /ms it will still be able to use this token but it will not see it

can still authenticate with it and do operations with it but it cannot see the full token so it cannot leak it and stuff like that right so I can say um find the env file and check what tokens/secs are in there let's see if it is able to find the GitHub personal access token okay so it's flagging some security blah blah blah I just want to see if you can locate the

token I just stored there. So Hermes agent is trying to be secure and that's fine but I'm testing whether to see if the token is there. Okay, beautiful. GitHub token it's it's there. Yeah. So we can now work with it. GitHub token is there. Now read the GitHub of skill and help me set up a new GitHub repo and give you access. Let me know what you need from me. be concise.

So again, I'm just following the steps that we have in the new society in the classroom for the Hermes mastery course. This is the second use case for cloud code. This is just one of eight different use cases we have here. Touch designer allows you to design any type of animations, really anything you want with Hermes agent and uh much much more. How to manage your inbox, how to do deep research, the desktop app which is really cool for Hermes agent. So yeah, all of this is available in the classroom of the new society. So I'm going to go back to the cloud code use case and let's follow the steps. Here we

are. Create the GitHub repo and clone. Right, Hermes is asking for permissions. I'm going to allow for this session. It checked that the token works. Beautiful. You can actually create a repo for us. Right. So I'm going to give it the answers. I'm going to name it repo name. Number two, I'm the owner. Number three, we can make it uh private. Number four, um, no readme file. Number five, local path, create fresh directory. Number

six, use my identity. Okay, so it should have all the info it needs to set set it up. And inside of GitHub, we should actually see if we go on the left or go to top right, click on repositories, we should see this new um repo being created by Hermes. Okay, so it wants my name name David Andre. Email david davidre.com. Okay, so if we reload here, we should see a new repo. There it is. So talking to plain

English. You really don't even have to know how to use GitHub. I'm just chatting with plain English with Hermes agent. It was able to create this repository. Pretty amazing. All right, so Hermes says we're done here. I'm just going to double check by copying these two steps. I'm going to do steps. Paste that in. Steps. Double check that we have done both of these steps. Answer in short. All right. Feel free to just screenshot these and follow the same steps. Yes, both done. Okay, beautiful. So, next we need to

connect Discord. Actually, we can probably test it. So, this repo is empty, right? So, if we go to our repos here, nothing is in here. We can u Okay, the readme is there. So, maybe I can test by updating the readme. update the readme by saying hi YouTube in there. Let's see if it can do that. All right. And now let's see if can push it to GitHub. It is going to do a commit. Done. Let's reload. Amazing. Hermes agent can now push to

GitHub by itself and we can just chat with it. The next step following the new society steps is to connect Discord. So we can chat with it through discord and then finally we're going to tie it back together to have it launch sub agents right because now it did the change itself but that blocks the main agent. The beauty of having the cloud code sub aents is that you can use her for anything you want and it can delegate work to cloud code. It can work for 10 minutes and then when it's done it just pushes it to GitHub. Okay. So I'm going to do Ctrl C to kill the

Hermes here. I'm going to do Hermes setup gateway. Enter. And let's configure the discord. Enter. Now to have her agent on discord. So you can chat with it like this. Hermes agent. Hey. You can see I have a discord server with just different agents. Open claw and Hermes. There it is. Hermes is responding here. Hey. If you want to do this, you need to set up a new Discord bot. And I'm going to walk you through all of that right now. So type in Discord developer portal.

There it is. Click on the first link. Make sure to log in with your GitHub account. On the left, click on applications. Here you're going to see all of your different apps. So, I'm going to go to top right, click on new application. I'm going to name it test YouTube Hermes. I agree. Create. Need to verify that I'm not a bot. Hopefully, I'm not. Okay, I passed. Hoof, that was that was close. Here, obviously, we need to select the app icon. So maybe I can just use this official logo of news, the

company behind Hermes. Apply. Amazing. Save changes. Now on the left, go to bot. Click on reset token. And do not share this with anybody. This is the bot token. I'm going to ask, you know, the motion to black this out because I already fired my video editor twice. So if you know, you know. And we have the bot token. Again, it's going this is going to be blurred or blacked out. I'm going to copy this. So actually once you copy this uh token on the same page scroll down here and we need to enable all these intents right. So here we have privilege gateway intents. You can see

there are these three toggles. Just enable all three of these toggles here and click on save changes. Then go to OOTH2 on the left. Scroll down to ooth URL generator and select two scopes bot and application commands. Let's find application commands. There it is applications commands. So bot and applications commands. Scroll to the bottom and it's going to give you the generated URL. You can see that on the very right below my webcam there's a copy button. So all the way to the bottom generated URL. Copy that. Open a

new browser tab and just paste that in. This is going to invite your bot into Discord. It's trying to open the Discord app. I'm going to need to click allow. Test Hermes YouTube. I'm going to select the private agent server. This is the Discord server I have just for your agents. If you don't have a server for agents, I highly recommend it. Authorize or if you want to have it to your team server and you know have other people tag it, that's also a possibility. That way you can set up a Hermes agent for a full team and everybody saves time. So I'm going to close that. Go to private agent server. We can see that a new bot

joined um test her. I can actually tag it. It's not running yet. You can see it was offline on. We can see that these agents, my personal agents are online. This one is offline. So, it's not going to work. Next, we need to jump back into our SSH and type in Hermes setup gateway. So, I'm going to select this cord and I'm going to hit uh space toggle it. Right, this is very unintuitive. You need to put check mark and then hit enter. It wants the bot token. So, again, I told you to copy that earlier.

So, now let's paste that in. Boom. Paste it in. It's saved. Now, it wants my user ID. So, go to Discord on the bottom left. Click on yourself and copy user ID. If you don't have that enabled, you need to go to settings, developer. There it is. Developer and enable developer note. Okay, this is what you need to do is enable this so you can then see that copy button. So when you click on your profile, you can see copy user ID. And then we jump back into the terminal and we paste this in. Home channel ID. Let's paste that in as well.

Install the gateway. Yes. System service. We need to do use a Hermes. This will not work because Hermes doesn't work. Okay, let's just type in Hermes gateway to start the gateway. It's going to be simpler probably. All right, so now if we go to Discord. Beautiful. We see our agent is online. Uhuh. Let's try messaging it directly. Hey. Okay, it's typing. There it is. Who are you? Beautiful. We are talking to Hermes directly on Discord.

I'm Hermes, your assistant iron command. Okay. Check if you have GitHub access. This is a new session. So, we need to remind it of the token. Now, we're talking through it through um Discord and it needs to combine. Okay, found it. Beautiful. Let me see if it works. See if you can find the YouTube test repo. All right. All right. This is massive progress here. Now, find the skill that lets

you manage cloth code sub agents. What is the name of the skill? Beautiful. So it can locate the skill. It has knowledge of the the GitHub repo. So next, we need to connect this to Versel. So we can set up automatic deployments. Next, create an account. You can start for completely for free. Uh this is one of the easiest ways to deploy apps. So I'm going to continue with GitHub. This one makes deployments super easy. And we can set up automatic deployments for anything here inside of Versell. Uh uh I'm not going to improve that.

Send data. Go to top right. Click on add new project. Continue with GitHub. We're going to connect this as well. Install. Scroll down. Install. Boom. That was very easy. And then YouTube test. We're going to import that. And actually, not yet because this is not a full app yet. So, so what I'm going to do is jump back to Discord. And now, let's test it out. So, I'm going to say build a simple Nex.js JS app using these cloth code sub

aents that lets me uh track my personal fetching sessions with a built-in SQLite DB then deploy it directly to this YouTube test GitHub repo. Tell cloud code to keep the app simple. Okay, so first I want to set up the pipeline so we can actually deploy on Versell and then we can build more impressive So it's going to use the skill cloth

code. It tested the cloud core version. Hopefully that works. We tested that earlier. So it does work. We authenticated with the API key or with the console. We actually skip the API key. But yeah, cloud core is ready. Let me set up the project and delegate. And the beauty of this we can talk to her as agent for any type of other things doing it web search, personal productivity, email. I mean look again in the new society we have a bunch of other use cases eight different use cases here for Hermes agent. So I'm going to show you once again how to find it inside of the new society. Go to classroom click on Hermes mastery and here you're going to

see the Hermes toolkit folder. Expand that and here are eight different use cases for Hermes agent. Right? So anything from deep research with chrome jobs setting up a unique personality who sold sold MD setting up the desktop app. This is something new that most people don't even know exists. Hermes agent has this cool desktop app which you can use with these offices. So we also have a guide on that in US society. The email inbox how to de delegate your email to Hermes agent personal automation productivity just time-saving stuff

private agent on local so running Hermes agent locally with either Deep Seek with either Gemma 4 whatever model you have or Quen 3.6 And then clo code. This is what we're doing right now. And then touch designer which you know lets you design stuff, animate stuff, anything basically. So all of these are available in the society classroom. We're finishing up the cloud code use case that lets us delegate. Let's see how that's running. Okay. So close is running in the background. It's monitoring the process. Refuses to run with bypass root.

Okay. Away from completion. Warning. Dangerously skip permission cannot be used with pseudo root privileges. Okay, how is the progress? So Hermes agent is acting as an orchestrator as the manager of these cloth code sub aents and all of them are running on a single hosting or VPS. So yeah, a single VPS can handle a lot. Scaffolding is done. X pusher created. Node modules installed all files created. Let's see. We can check the GitHub repo if anything is

here. No, Hermes didn't push yet. Okay, let's jump back into Discord. Just waiting for CL to finish build verification. I'll ping you when it completes. Okay, appreciate the activity. And that's the whole beauty of this. Like you can literally load up Discord on your phone as I'm doing right now. Right. And you can literally send voice notes. Let me just do it. Yo, can you check again and explain the the some of the architectural decisions that Cloud Code decided to take with this project? You can see, you know,

it's synced because obviously it's the same uh app Discord. And you can do this while you're working down the street, while you're at the gym. You can be building software and auto deploying to production. Like this really will 5x your development speed. You just need to sit down for 60 minutes and set it up, which most people never do. That's why most people never achieve anything in life because they're not willing to get delayed gratification, right? A little bit of discomfort and effort up front or tremendous benefit going forward. Okay, so the process is still running, still

building and it answered me. Text tag next.js uh SQLite free no RM database lives here API design structure. Okay, so it has some opinions whatever doesn't matter but still building. So it's running npm run build probably just to verify the build and then it passes. So I'm going to ask it to check again. It's a nice day here in Kato and again we are hiring. obviously interested in this one use case because that's what's blocking us from deploying to Versell is that this repo is empty. So there's nothing to deploy here doesn't even have a text tag. Okay, so actually one minute is minimum for CR jobs. So every one minute it's going to check the status of cloud code and uh message us. But notice how we're still chating with her as agent even though cloud code is running on the background of the VPS and we can use it for any other task. It's not blocking, right? Okay, close finished. It's so

beautiful. It's just finished. So, let me reload here. Okay, it's pushed. It's pushed to GitHub now. So, if we reload Universell, we should see it. We should see the text stack. Hopefully, it picks up here. It picks up nextJS. So, I can click on import and we can deploy. And again, we're using a free Versel account. In about 30 seconds, we should probably have our app fully deployed on the web. Let's go back to Discord. Done. Build finishes. Succeeded. Push to GitHub. Chrome job removed. Beautiful. I mean,

guys, this is insane. We're just doing all of this by chatting plain English into Discord. So, if you're already using Discord, you don't have to install any new apps. You don't have to set up any new apps into your workflow. You're doing what you're already doing, chatting with Hermes agent as if you were chatting with your friend. So super easy changes and in fact you can do it from the phone again like any anywhere where you could chat you know discord, WhatsApp, telegram, slack, iMessage all of these work with Hermes agent. So just connect it and then you know if you're in some boring meeting you can be shipping stuff. If you're on a date and

the date isn't going well just you know text your agent, deploy a new app, scale to 50k MR. Like, I'm not even joking. This is like 10 times slower than if you actually have this workflow. Check again. Interesting. Build

succeeded. Okay, it's analyzing. Just push what it changed. I want to see the new design. You know, obviously this is very very basic, but that's not the point. The point is the workflow. Everybody knows that you can oneshot amazing front ends, but people don't understand the deployments and the actual practical use cases. Oh, there we go. Amazing new um
